Injuries

·          Winnipeg Jets rookie forward Patrik Laine has a concussion and there is no timetable for his return, coach Paul Maurice said on Sunday.  Laine, the No. 2 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, missed practice Sunday when the Jets were preparing for their home game against the Calgary Flames on Monday (8 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, TSN3, SNW, NHL.TV).  He was hit in the neutral zone by Buffalo Sabres defenseman Jake McCabe with 14:12 remaining in the third period of a 4-3 loss on Saturday. Laine left the game and did not return.  Laine’s 37 points (21 goals, 16 assists) lead NHL rookies and are tied with linemate Mark Scheifele for the Jets lead.  https://www.nhl.com/news/patrik-laine-leaves-game-for-jets/c-285433666

·         Florida Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad was placed on injured reserve on Saturday after sustaining a lower-body injury on Friday.  Bjugstad left a 2-1 win against the Nashville Predators in the first period and did not return. He has a goal and an assist in 21 games this season.  https://www.nhl.com/news/panthers-nick-bjugstad-placed-on-injured-reserve/c-285427644

·         Montreal Canadiens forward Brendan Gallagher will be out at least eight weeks after having surgery Thursday to repair a fractured left hand.  Gallagher, 24, was injured when he was hit by a shot by Canadiens defenseman Shea Weber during the third period of a 4-3 overtime win at the Dallas Stars on Wednesday.  He missed 29 games last season after two fingers on his left hand were fractured when he blocked a shot by New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk on Nov. 22, 2015. Gallagher had surgery the following day.  Gallagher has 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 39 games this season, and 174 points (83 goals, 91 assists) in 299 NHL games, all with the Canadiens.  https://www.nhl.com/news/montreals-brendan-gallagher-to-miss-eight-weeks/c-285394012

·         Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn was placed on injured reserve Wednesday because of a foot injury.  It is retroactive to Dec. 31. Benn was scratched from the game against the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, and forward Antoine Roussel was activated by Dallas.  Benn was injured in the second period of a 3-1 loss to the Florida Panthers on Saturday when he went awkwardly into the boards. The Dallas captain finished the game.  https://www.nhl.com/news/stars-jamie-benn-placed-on-injured-reserve/c-285339066

Milestones/Records/Honors/Deaths:

·          2017 NHL All-Star Game rosters revealed:  Toronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews and Winnipeg Jets right wing Patrik Laine, tied for the lead among rookies with 21 goals each, were among the 40 players named Tuesday to the four divisional rosters for the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Game in Los Angeles. Washington Capitals right wing Alex Ovechkin, who has 19 goals and is the reigning Rocket Richard Memorial Trophy holder, was also named.  The 40 players selected by the NHL join the four captains, who were voted in by fans earlier this month, to take part in the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The 2017 Coors Light NHL All-Star Skills Competition is Jan. 28 at Staples Center (7 p.m. ET; NBC, SN, TVA Sports). The 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Game is Jan. 29 (3:30 p.m. ET; NBC, SN, TVA Sports). Each division is represented by six forwards, three defensemen and two goalies. The divisional teams will compete head-to-head in the Skills Competition on Saturday and then will face off in semifinal games Sunday. The winners of the semifinal games will play for the championship. Each game is played in a 3-on-3 format with two 10-minute halves.  The four coaches for the 2017 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend will be Michel Therrien of the Montreal Canadiens (Atlantic), Bruce Boudreau of the Minnesota Wild (Central), John Tortorella of the Columbus Blue Jackets (Metropolitan) and Peter DeBoer of the San Jose Sharks (Pacific).  The Pacific Division won the 2016 All-Star Game in Nashville, defeating the Central Division 9-6 in the semifinal and the Atlantic Division 1-0 in the final.    https://www.nhl.com/news/2017-all-star-game-rosters/c-285394072

·         New York Rangers right wing Michael Grabner, Edmonton Oilers left wing Patrick Maroonand Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby have been named the NHL’s “Three Stars” for the week ending Jan. 8.  Grabner led the League with 5-2-7, including two game-winning goals, in three contests to propel the Rangers (28-13-1, 57 points) to a pair of victories.  Maroon (5-1-6 in 4 GP) matched Grabner for the League lead in goals to power the Oilers (21-14-7, 49 points) to a 2-2-0 week.  Holtby went 2-0-0 in three games, compiling a 1.29 goals-against average, .955 save percentage and two shutouts to guide the Capitals (25-9-5, 55 points) to a perfect 3-0-0 week  https://www.nhl.com/news/michael-grabner-patrick-maroon-braden-holtby-named-3-stars-of-the-week/c-285487362

·         Nashville Predators forward Colton Sissons made NHL history with his first hat trick in the League during a 6-1 win at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday.  He became the first player in NHL history to score at least three goals in a game with the second goal coming on an empty net and the third being scored on a goalie. Sissons’ unique accomplishment was worthy of celebration. Fortunately for him, a generous Predators fan at Amalie Arena was willing to share in the moment by parting with his hat.  https://www.nhl.com/news/colton-sissons-of-nashville-makes-nhl-history/c-285394872
